Paying for adaptations, Telecare and other equipment

Charges for adaptations

If you are applying for a Disabled Facilities Grant  for an adaptation to your home, such as a ramp to the front door, you must complete a form about your financial position. This lets us work out how much you can afford to pay. We will send you the form, which you can complete yourself or with our help.

How much will I have to pay?

Adaptations that cost less than £1,000 are free — we will not charge you. If the adaptation costs more than £1,000 and you are applying for a Disabled Facilities Grant for adaptations to an owner-occupied or private rented home, our Adaptations Agency will work out the amount you will need to contribute to the work. If you are an ALMO tenant there is no charge for adaptations that the ALMO carries out to your home.

Paying for a Care Ring emergency alarm, Telecare or other equipment

There is no longer any charge for the Care Ring emergency alarm.

If you receive additional equipment to help you live independently in your home, or safety equipment (known as Telecare) from Adult Social Care, this is also provided free on loan.

In future it is likely that there will be a small charge for people who need to use the mobile support service to respond to their Telecare equipment, but as yet this is not agreed.
