The onset of sensory impairment may be gradual, or it may be as the result of a trauma or illness. Whatever the circumstances, adapting to life brings uncertainty and challenges and requires varying degree of care. Bellow are organisations in Leeds that provide support and advice to carers and to the sensory impaired person they care for.

Resource Centre for Blind and Partially Sighted People provides advice, information and support, venue for meetings, self help and campaigning groups.

D.A.L.E.S - Deaf Across Leeds Enablement Service opened on June 16th 2011 and aims to help adults aged 18+ who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing or Deafblind whose hearing loss causes difficulty for independent living.  It will focus on:- needs led assessments; improved health and well-being; making a positive contribution; increasing choice and control; action to ensure freedom from discrimination; improving economic wellbeing; maintaining personal dignity and respect.  Open Mon-Thurs 9am-5pm. Friday 9-4.30pm.

Leeds Vision Consortium  opened on 13th June 2011 delivering services for blind, dual sensory loss and partially sighted adults living in Leeds.  They offer:- an Independent Living Services;  Employment service;  Eye Clinic Liaison officers; promote health and wellbeing; support young people aged 17-25 with transition from school; and they advise and support people with assistive technologies.  They operate a community outreach service as well as groups and activities at their base.
