Leeds is reviewing the ways we provide residential and day care services for older people in the city.
A citywide review of residential care homes and day services for older people in Leeds has now been completed. Each of our homes has been assessed to see whether it can continue to provide the standard of accommodation older people expect now and in the future.
The range of criteria we used to assess each home and day service included:
- how old it is
- what state it's in
- how much money is needed to bring the building up to the required standard
- how many people attend it and their support needs
- how well it can meet the requirements for providing support in the future.
There are two main options for each service:
Option 1 - redevelop (re-commission)
This means that the service will be turned into a specialist care facility, for example, a centre which supports people with dementia, or people who are frail but still able to live at home with support.
Option 2 - help people find alternative support (de-commission)
If this is what is decided, then it will happen as part of our longer-term plans for the future of older people's services. Nothing will happen suddenly or unexpectedly.

We are holding a consultation across Leeds till August 2011. Read about the consultation here.
