BID Services is a UK registered charity working with deaf, deafened, hard of hearing and physically and sensory disabled people across the UK. Services they provide include Care Management, Supporting People, Equipment Services, BSL Interpreting, Deaf Awareness Training, Employment, Deaf Care, Palliative Care, Duty Social Work Services, Information and Guidance, British Sign Language Level 1,2 and 3 courses as well as residential homes that support Deaf people with additional needs based in the West Midlands area.
In January 2011, BID was successful in winning a contract from Leeds City Council to provide a single service across Leeds for people who are deaf or have hearing loss. BID’s new Leeds service is called ‘DALES’ which stands for “Deaf Across Leeds Enablement Service”.
DALES aims to support adults who have a range of needs related to their hearing loss, they include:
- Adults who are Deaf
- Adults who have hearing loss
- Adults who are deaf and have a learning disability
- Young people aged 17+ who are Deaf or have hearing loss who are in transition from children’s services.
DALES will provide the following services from their office base in Leeds City Centre:
- A specialist social work service
- Hearing loss support services
- Services for deaf people with learning disabilities
- Equipment/Assistive technology
- Housing and Benefits information
- Support with Employment
- Locality based satellite support groups
- Deaf equality training
- Emotional health and well being services
- Outreach services
- ‘Drop In’ facilities
- Home Visits
- Volunteer and mentoring Schemes
