Sport and active recreation programme for disabled people

Please note:The Medical and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) a government agency, has issued a medical advice alert (Reference no.MDA/2008/079) with regards to the use of Oxford Dipper pool hoist chairs. They are advising removing hoist chairs from use until an appropriate solution to reduce the risk of a fall has been implemented. The use of Oxford Dippers with slings is still permissible.

This means the hoist chairs in Leeds City Council leisure facilities have been removed on safety grounds but we will reinstate them when advised. As we are aware this will cause some inconvenience to some of our customers, we are currently purchasing slings for all facilities that require them so we can continue to offer pool hoist provision.

There are a number of sessions available throughout Leeds for children and adults to participate in exercise, for fitness or for social reasons.

Some of these sessions are run by Leeds City Council and some are run by private clubs hiring the facilities.  They cover a wide range of opport disability athletics at John Charles Centre for Sports unities including:

  • adapted cycling,
  • athletics,
