There are many facilities at Shire View, including:

  • a display of aids to daily living
  • a Braille library
  • craft rooms
  • a training kitchen
  • assistance with low vision aids e.g. magnifiers
  • a reading service
  • an information room
  • a computer room
  • a café

Who can come?
The centre is open to anyone in the Leeds area who wants to know about the services provided.

There are other agencies at the centre including:

  • The guide dogs for the blind association
  • Leeds talking newspaper
  • Leeds City Council’s Braille and large print unit
  • Association of blind Asians
  • North regional association for the blind
  • Royal National Institute for the Blind

At the centre you can:

  • learn to develop communication skills and use new technology
  • get information about local and national groups
  • develop leisure and social pursuits - choose from a range of activities
  • join support groups and meet other people
  • get support with advocacy, welfare or housing problems

The centre is a joint project run by Leeds City Council's Social Services Department and the guide dogs for the blind association.
