The Leeds City Council, Adult Social Care Independent Living Project (ILP) will:
- increase opportunities for more than 340 people with a learning disability or mental health needs, who live in 13 hostels across the city, to take greater control of their lives
- build 73 new purpose-built properties on 39 sites enabling people to live in communities of their choosing
- support some people to move into mainstream housing
- provide new specialist services as well as improved Respite and Crisis facilities
- work in partnership over the next 25 years with Leeds Independent Living Accommodation Company (LiLAC)
- In addition a recently signed contract will include the building of a children's respite centre for up to 12 children at a time. Work will start in the New Year with completion early in 2010.
The main contract was signed on the 9th June 2008 and work started on the first phase on the 23rd June 2008. The first properties were handed over in March 2009 only a couple of days late. The second phase will be ready in early June and people will be moving in shortly afterwards.
