Using your blue badge

Where to park

The blue badge is not a licence to park anywhere. You need to park in marked disabled parking bays and comply with the signs shown in the kerb side. Even if a parking bay appears to have been created and provided for a specific individual it does not stop others from parking in it if it is vacant.

You can usually park on single yellow lines if there are no loading or unloading restrictions.

For further information please use the link provided to visit where to park with a blue badge.

Displaying your badge

The badge must be displayed on the top of the dash board. It must be clearly visible in the windscreen of your vehicle with the front of the badge facing forward.  The front is the side showing the wheelchair user symbol. This is so that the relevant details can be seen from the outside of the vehicle when the vehicle is parked.

Misuse of badges

You must not lend your badge to anyone – it is for your personal use and must only be displayed when you are using it directly.  Do not allow other people to use your badge to do something for you, such as shopping or collecting something for you, unless you are travelling with them.

It is a criminal offence for you or anyone else to misuse your badge, and it can lead to a £1000 fine.

In line with the Government’s Blue Badge Scheme Reform Programme 2009 and supported by Leeds blue badge holders, we are currently carrying out a programme of detection exercises to identify where blue badges are being misused. For more information about this see the Fair Processing Notice link on the right-hand side of this page.
