Common Assessment Framework

The Common Assessment Framework (CAF) is a method used to make an assessment of a child's additional needs and then work out how those needs can best be met.

The CAF aims to provide an early and effective identification of any problems or difficulties. It will help all those involved to agree with the child and family what's needed and to then develop a plan of support.

It is a key part of making sure that the child - and their family - get a co-ordinated service where all the organisations work together. The CAF is a standard approach and it can be used by all organisations working in children's services in England.
