The Carers Emergency Plan offers peace of mind by providing a free emergency back up service to carers in Leeds. In an unforeseeable situation such as if you are unavoidably delayed, taken ill or called away in the middle of the night, the emergency plan will look after the person you care for for up to 48 hours (72 hours on a Bank Holiday period).

To join this scheme you must register by contacting Housing 21 (details below) and give your address and telephone number

An emergency liaison officer will visit you and help complete the registration form

You will discuss a plan for emergencies which is held confidentially

There is an optional document called understanding your needs, if the person you care for is unable to explain the help they need, which will be kept at home

An Emergency Card will be given to you containing your unique reference number that will show our team your plan if you call in an emergency. A fridge magnet, mobile phone sticker and key ring is provided so others know you have a carers emergency plan and the 24hr emergency contact number is visible and accessible.

Message in a bottle scheme
This scheme encourages you to keep personal and medical details of your cared for person on a standard form and in a common location -the fridge. If you are not present and they have an accident or are taken suddenly ill then the emergency services know where they can find information they might need.
