Leeds Shared Lives - Asian Development Worker

Shared Lives

The Asian Development worker's role is to promote Leeds Shared Lives (formerly Family Placement) within the different South Asian communities in Leeds.

The key objective is to ensure that carers are recruited from the South Asian community within Leeds who can offer a responsive service to meet service user’s needs and preferences. The worker is happy to visit different community groups and venues to talk about the service.

The Asian Development worker provides support to Asian Leeds Shared Lives carers across the different schemes. The worker is available to visit people referred for the service for whom language is a problem. She visits prospective carers for Leeds Shared Lives and provides support for them through their training and approval process.

We do have a representative number of carers from the South Asian community. Although exact matching can be difficult due to the diversity of the different communities in Leeds, we do try to match service users with carers who reflect their cultural backgrounds where they request this. Often service users wish to prioritise other factors such as a carer's understanding of disability.
