Learning disability is a lifelong condition and people may need support with daily practical and social skills or require 24 hour care. The person with care and support needs will be assessed for appropriate service to help them. From 2010, the new self directed support system will enable them assess themselves (with help) and can take control of their own care package by choosing the type of support they want.
