Where is the Register Office?
Our main office is in Leeds Town Hall, The Headrow, Leeds but you can also register births and deaths at some of the one stop centres in Leeds.

Do I need to book an appointment to register a birth?
Yes. You need to make an appointment to register all births, deaths and stillbirths.

Where can I get married in Leeds?
You can get married in any approved premises in England and Wales. You will need to discuss available dates and times with both the superintendent registrar and your chosen venue.

What is a civil partnership?
A Civil Partnership is a legal relationship for same-sex couples, which is formed by signing a Civil Partnership registration document. It provides a number of important rights and responsibilities and equal treatment for same-sex couples on a wide range of legal matters. 

Who can register a death?
One of the following people must register the death

  • A relative of the deceased.
  • A person present at the death.
  • A person arranging the funeral (not the undertaker).
  • In certain circumstances others such as the administrator or the occupier of the place where the death took place can register.

What is a citizenship ceremony?
Under the Nationality, Immigration and Asylum Act 2002 anyone who applies for British Citizenship must attend a Citizenship ceremony. New citizens must take an oath or affirmation of allegiance to Her Majesty the Queen and make a pledge of loyalty to the United Kingdom.

Where can I find suitable childcare?
Our Family Information Service - The Family Hub is a free telephone information and advice service to parents and carers Leeds. What community centres does the council have in Leeds?
The council's lettings unit provides an administration service to 63 community centres throughout Leeds.

Are there any community grants available?
Yes. West Yorkshire Grants awards grants to voluntary (i.e. not-for-profit) organisations operating across West Yorkshire. Funding is available for all types of voluntary activity - arts, sport, recreation, education, environment and social/welfare.

What help can carers get?
If you are a carer we can offer services or equipment for your home and give you information about other council services that may be able to help you.
