Live, free outdoor relay of Puccini's Tosca

 

This is the last of the three Royal Opera House productions brought to Millennium Square as part of BP Big Screens this summer:

The Royal Opera House, Puccini's Tosca on Thursday 18 July at 7.30pm (gates open at 6.30pm, pre-show at 7pm)

Passion, intrigue, revenge, a star diva and fabulous music, Tosca is one of the great opera experiences. Come and learn the story of the idealistic lovers Tosca and Cavaradossi, and of the evil Baron Scarpia who plots their destruction.

Location: Millennium Square is the city's award winning outdoor public space and multi-purpose entertainment venue situated in the heart of the city centre (see map below). Surrounded by the Leeds General Infirmary, Town Hall, Civic Hall, Electric Press and City Museum, this stylish civic setting is the ideal venue to experience the magic of opera and ballet relayed live outdoors.

Attendees are welcome to seat themselves within the controlled and accessible area created on Millennium Square. Covered seating (with restricted capacity), toilets and a coffee cart will be provided on site, but you may also bring your own collapsible furniture and picnic.

Access  

Millennium Square can be accessed off Portland Gate / Portland Crescent, Cookridge Street, Rossington Street, Great George Street or Calverley Street with level / sloped access provided at each of these points. Exact entrance and exit arrangements will vary depending on specific events. The Square itself follows the natural topography of the surrounding ground levels and slopes down from North to South. Seating is provided to the North and West edges of the Square in the form of metal benches which incorporate back rests and arm rests. When a large event is being held in the Square and public toilets underneath the Broderick Terrace to the North East of the Square are in use for that event, two disabled persons toilets with a choice of right and left handed transfer and can be accessed via radar locks will be available, and are accessible via a ramped approach. Otherwise the nearest disabled persons toilets are located in the Leeds City Museum which is on the Eastern edge of the Square (subject to museum opening hours): The nearest Changing Places toilet to Millennium Square is located in the Leeds Gallery Shop & Café, Central Library and Art Gallery, The Headrow, LS1 3AA. Nearby on street designated disabled persons parking (4 hour time limit, no return within 1 hour) is available on: Portland Gate (to the North side of the Square) Portland Crescent (to the North side of the Square) Rossington Street (to the South East side of the Square) Cookridge Street (to the South side of the Square) Alexander Street (to the South side of the Square) Calverley Street (to the West side of the Square) Woodhouse Lane multi storey car park also provides non-time limited designated disabled persons parking on Levels 1 and 7 which is free for blue badge holders.
