Piped water and sewerage services
Under the Water Industry Act 1991, Yorkshire Water Plc hold the license to supply both water and sewerage services to Leeds, as part of the Yorkshire area. Visit the Yorkshire Water website for more information about their services, including how to apply to have a water meter installed.
Water pollution
The Environment Agency is responsible for maintaining and improving the quality of fresh, marine, surface and underground water in England and Wales. They aim to prevent water pollution wherever possible, and to make sure that water pollution that could affect ecosystems or people is cleaned up quickly. Drinking water quality
Central government's Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI) has overall responsibility for the quality of drinking water that comes out of our taps. Leeds City Council's environmental health service investigate complaints and carry out sampling locally to ensure drinking water supplies are clean and safe. Aire Action Leeds
Aire Action Leeds, is a partnership between the Council, Environment Agency, British Waterways and Yorkshire Water which aims to protect and enhance improve the environment and promote the usage of the waterways through Leeds, including the River Aire, Aire and Calder navigation and the Leeds and Liverpool canal. Making the distinctive waterways of Leeds a better place will benefit the wildlife and everyone who uses them whether they work, live or visit them.
