Street Register

The street register is a list of streets maintained at public expense (often known as adoption). The search facility below gives direct access to the Council’s register.

The register contains a full list of publicly maintained streets. It does not hold a comprehensive listing of all streets, though many are included for information purposes.

Street:

Terms used:

  • Public – maintained at public expense. With a small number of exceptions such as motorway and trunk roads, this means by Leeds City Council.
  • Private – a street maintained by other arrangements, often the landowner.
  • Closed - a legal process has been completed to close the street as highway. The Council no longer has any maintenance responsibility for these streets.
  • Split status – a street which is partially adopted – please refer to the details button for further information.
  • Un-named streets – details of streets without an official name (e.g. many back and side property access roads) can be found in the details section associated with the nearest named street.
  • Section 38 – these streets (or the parts indicated in the details section) are currently not the responsibility of the Council, but are in a process leading towards ‘adoption’ by the Council subject to satisfactory construction and inspection.

The data is updated on a weekly basis.

If you have any comments or queries on the data from the register, the Street registry team can be contacted by e-mail on streetregistry@leeds.gov.uk
