The Renaissance Leeds Partnership is a collaboration between English Partnerships, Leeds City Council, Leeds Initiative and Yorkshire Forward. Its aim is to build confidence among investors and funding agencies, and increase public and private sector investment in the public realm and infrastructure of Leeds.
Why is the partnership needed?
Significant economic growth has already been achieved in the period of the first Vision for Leeds, with major regeneration initiatives securing a significant increase in employment; private-sector investment in the thriving city centre; and a growing business and residential population.
Continued success in attracting investment depends on ability to support the land, public realm and infrastructure requirements of developers and other investors in the city. The key regeneration agencies in the city have come together as a partnership to marshal their resources, funds and powers to deliver a common set of agreed priorities and to maximise the impact of public sector investment.
The partnership will provide support for individual regeneration schemes. It will work to unlock barriers to regeneration in the Aire Valley Leeds and it will lobby on behalf of the city on strategic transport issues. The Renaissance Leeds Partnership is also working with both universities and the health sector to ensure capital investment by the public sector supports the broader regeneration of local areas.
The partnership launched its first investment prospectus for the city at MIPIM 2006, the major international exhibition and conference for the property and development industry. The prospectus sets out plans for a £3 billion public sector investment programme focusing on housing, education, healthcare, new cultural facilities, regeneration programmes and transport infrastructure.
