We have 9 household waste sorting sites (HWSS), also called tips or recycling centres, throughout the city. These sites are for Leeds residents to dispose of their household waste.
Please note: Opening times for household waste sorting sites are April to October 8am - 6pm (British summer time) and November to March 8am - 4pm (Greenwich mean time)
The site will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Years Day.
At Middleton, Pudsey, Meanwood Road, Thorp Arch and Yeadon you can also donate goods that you no longer want but are too good to throw away. These donations are given to local reuse charities.
If you want to use a van to dispose of your own household waste you can only do so on Wednesdays or Saturdays. This is to help ensure trade waste is not being disposed of illegally by businesses at household waste sorting sites.
You can find information on the disposal of business waste in Leeds on Kirkstall Road household waste sorting site.
Recycling bring sites
These are also known as bottle banks or paper banks. Leeds has around 400 sites throughout the city often at supermarket or pub car parks. You can recycle a variety of materials including paper, glass, textiles or cans. They are available 24 hours a day seven days a week.
Find your nearest recycling site
Most of these sites are on private land and we are grateful for the support of the land owners efforts to recycle and reuse unwanted items. It is very important we all play our part in keeping these sites clean and tidy. Do not leave waste at the side of the containers.
Please telephone or text the bottle bank enquiry line on 07891 277 226 or the environmental contact centre on 0113 222 4406 to:
- report a site that is not clean and tidy
- report full or overflowing banks
- find your nearest recycling bank and what you can recycle there
- suggest suitable locations for new recycling banks
