There are around 6 000 properties in Leeds that share communal bin yards. Bin yards are used to store the refuse and recycling bins for a specific number of houses.
We ask all residents with a bin yard to follow these rules:
- Ensure the bin yard is kept locked at all times
- Use the green bin for paper, card, tins, cans and plastics only
- Use the black bin for general waste only
- Place any waste in the correct bin and keep the bin lids closed
- Do not leave waste on the floor of the bin yard
- On the day the bin(s) are emptied you must take your bin out of the yard and leave it on the street before 7am
- Return your bin to the yard and lock it when the bin has been emptied.
Black bins are emptied weekly. Green bins are emptied every two weeks.
