We currently collect garden waste from approximately 55,000 properties in Leeds.  Since the scheme started last year 3704 tonnes of garden waste has been sent for composting instead of going to landfill.

There are six garden waste collection routes.  These are in:

C1 Roundhay and Moortown

C2 Gipton and Harehills and Killingbeck and Seacroft

C3 Morley North

C4 Calverley and Farsley

C5 Adel and Wharfdale

C6 Alwoodley

Residents in the Kirkstall and Weetwood wards can participate in a Community Compost Scheme being run by Leeds Organic Growers. Details of the scheme can be found at www.leedsorganicgrowers.org

Only properties with a brown bin receive a garden waste collection service.  To check if your property is on one of the garden waste collection routes please click on the link on this page.

From March to the end of October the bins are emptied every two weeks.

Spring collection dates for the garden waste scheme are as follows:

You can use your brown bin for the following items:

  • grass cuttings
  • hedge clippings
  • leaves
  • dead house and bedding plants
  • windfall fruit
  • weeds
  • twigs and small branches (not more than 3 cm thick)

Please do not place these items in your garden waste bin:

  • plastic bags and paper
  • metal
  • soil, stones or rubble
  • dog or cat faeces
  • turf or ash
  • pet bedding or straw
  • kitchen waste (no vegetables, fruit peelings, meat, fish, poultry, bones, dairy products or cooked foods).
