What is biodiversity?
Biodiversity is the 'living' part of the environment. It includes all living things, including animals, fungi, plants and micro-organisms and the communities and habitats they form together.

Biodiversity is not just about rare or threatened species and habitats - it is also concerned with ensuring that widespread and common species remain an integral part of a sustainable natural environment.

Leeds Great Garden Pond survey 2008
This year the Leeds Great Garden Pond Survey has linked up with the National Amphibian and Reptile Recording Scheme to try and reach over 100 gardens across Leeds District. You can help us. The survey involves counting and recording the amphibians that appear in your garden and garden ponds between March and June and submitting your results to us. Surveying is simple and fun and there are talks being held over February and March to help you learn how to identify and record your amphibians. You can download more information about these events in pdf format from this page. Join us and help conserve our amphibians into the future.
