A wide range of chemical leakages, fires and incidents involving radioactive materials may require action by the emergency services, the Council and other agencies.
These incidents may result in a hazard to public health and/or pollution to the environment.
Depending on the circumstances, you may be required to evacuate your home or work premises.
The source of a chemical or environmental hazard may be:
- Household chemicals, more toxic industrial chemicals and highly toxic chemical warfare agents
- Biological agents including bacteria, viruses or biological toxins
- Radiological incident resulting from an accident or deliberate release
