Introduction
The Council has a duty to clearly define why an area has been designated as a conservation area, to outline its special interest and publish proposals for its preservation and enhancement. This information is given in a conservation area appraisal and management plan. As part of the work to produce appraisals, the Council will take the opportunity to review conservation area boundaries to ensure that they best represent areas of special character and historic interest.
To date 19 of the conservation areas have up-to-date appraisals:

Funding has been secured for the following areas to be reviewed and appraised by March 2010. Other areas may be added as opportunities arise.

- Guiseley: Park Gate
- Guiseley: Town Centre
- Linton
- Morley (Town Centre)
- Morley: Dartmouth Park

- Pool in Wharfedale (proposed conservation area) at consultation

- Thorpe Arch Industrial Estate
- Walton
- Wetherby
Work is also underway on reviewing the conservation areas in and around the city centre linked to a City Centre Area Action Plan being developed as part of the Local Development Framework.
The City Council aims to have up-to-date appraisals and management plans in place for all the conservation areas. These will provide the basis for making informed decisions in the positive management, protection and enhancement of the conservation areas.

This draft stage allows you to participate in the process and have your say on what you feel is important in the conservation area, whether the boundary is appropriate and how you think it should be managed in the future.
Community involvement is an essential part of the appraisal process and local residents and other interested parties are encouraged to comment on the draft document. Your views are important to the Council and will be taken into consideration before the final document is published.
During the consultation period the draft appraisals can be downloaded here. Copies are also available for viewing at local libraries and at the reception of the Leonardo Building, 2 Rossington Street, Leeds LS2 8HD.
