The West Yorkshire Archaeology Service is based in Wakefield, researches, protects and provides information about archaeological sites in Calderdale, Bradford, Kirklees, Leeds and Wakefield. It carries out surveys and excavations, and keeps a record of all known sites and monuments.
The advisory service maintains the 'County Sites and Monuments Record' and provides talks and educational visits.

West Yorkshire Archaeology Service is part of West Yorkshire Joint Services (WYJS). WYJS is run by a joint committee of councillors from the five Metropolitan districts within West Yorkshire, namely Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, Leeds and Wakefield. They provide the trading standards, archives, archaeology and public analyst functions for these authorities.
