Leeds Libraries have:

  • A wide range of health and fitness books for loan
  • A recommended reading list for long-term health conditions developed in partnership with Leeds Teaching Hospitals, download on the right.
  • A range of health journals, directories, and dictionaries available in the Information Centre in the Central Library
  • Free internet access available in all libraries allowing you to find health information on the web
  • WebLinks - our selected links to the best websites – includes a section about sites covering a wide range of health matters

One of the most useful websites is the NHS Choices. This allows you to find your nearest:

  • Doctors 
  • Dentists
  • Opticians
  • Pharmacies

The Leeds Health Portal also gives you access to information about health services in Leeds, together with links to the five local Primary Care Trusts.

NHS Direct Online can help you to find out about health problems, illnesses, operations, tests, and treatments. 

The NHS Direct Telephone Service (0845 4647) is a 24-hour nurse advice and health information helpline, providing confidential information on:

  • What to do if you or your family are feeling ill
  • Particular health conditions
  • Local healthcare services, such as doctors, dentists, or late night opening pharmacies
  • Self help and support organisations
