Education and learning

Children learning

Leeds is recognised internationally as a leading centre for learning, knowledge and research. Our city has two universities, with a student population of over 45,000.

Education Leeds is wholly owned by Leeds City Council and is responsible for providing all education support services for children and young people of statutory school age in Leeds.

Admissions
We make arrangements for parents to apply for a school place in reception (primary schools), year 3 (junior schools) and year 7 (secondary schools.) We also have arrangements for parents to apply for a school outside of the normal arrangements, eg if parents move house.

School holiday dates
Find Leeds school holiday dates here. Please contact schools directly for their five training days, as these are not the same for all schools.

Jobs and skills service
We also have an award-winning jobs and skills service, working to remove inequalities in education and improve access to employment in Leeds.

School governors
School governors are important to the running of schools. Because they are drawn from the general public they bring to their task a wide range of fresh perspectives from their life and work.
