Sports club support

Sports club support

Part of Sport Development's role is to increase the numbers of people participating and volunteering within sports clubs and increase the range and standards of sporting opportunities for the people of Leeds.

The team focuses on supporting clubs, sports coaches and officials to develop their ability to provide a range of formal sporting experiences from regular participation and competition through to sporting excellence. The officers in the team work on a city wide basis and can support you in the following areas

  • Volunteering - support and advice on any aspect of volunteering from increasing your volunteer base to developing the volunteers you already work with
  • Club Mark - support for clubs working towards Club Mark accreditation, which recognises clubs who provide safe, effective and child friendly training conditions
  • Establishing school and club links - linking clubs to schools and providing accessible exit routes for young people to participate outside school.
  • Training opportunities and Continual Professional Development (CPD) supporting coaches through opportunities such as safeguarding, club welfare, equity and diversity and additional sports specific workshops and seminars.
  • Funding support advice for clubs

Leeds Sports Federation - small grants scheme The Leeds sports grants are intended to encourage and enable the people of Leeds to take part in sport, particularly within the voluntary sports clubs. The system is administered by the Leeds Sports Federation on behalf of Leeds City Council, through its grants panel. Grant awards are made for sports equipment or kit only. Grants awarded are from £100 to £500. The grants panel meets four times per year.

Community Amateur Sports Clubs (CASC)
The CASC system is run by the Inland Revenue Sports Clubs Department. It seeks to recognise the good community work that many sports clubs do by giving them many of the benefits of charitable status but without the hard work and complexity of enrolling as a charity and complying with charitable procedures. To find out more about CASC contact HM Revenue and Customs
