Get involved in local places and local services, from taking part in consultations, to learning more about council decision making or volunteering in your community.
Leeds Citizens' Panel
The information panel members give helps us see how well our services perform, what might be improved and helps us understand what it is like to live in the different areas of Leeds.
Panel members are residents that accepted a random postal invitation to join the group, sent out every few years, and the group has broadly the same makeup as the whole area. That means there is the right balance of men and women, people of different ages, ethnic backgrounds and different wards.
Have your say on local places and local services

Area committees
Area committees are made up of local councillors and aim to improve the delivery and co-ordination of council services in local areas. They aim to improve the quality of local decision-making by finding out people’s priorities for their area and turning them into local action plans (Area Delivery Plans).
Visit this section to learn which Area committee covers where you live and how to get involved. You can also download the area committee map as a PDF from the downloads on the right hand side of this page.
Scrutiny boards
The ‘watchdog’ of the council. Scrutiny boards examine decisions and policies, overall performance of services and make recommendations ensuring the people of Leeds get the best public services available.
This section tells you about scrutiny in Leeds and includes a guide with details on how to get involved. Members of the public are always welcome to attend meetings of the scrutiny boards.

Volunteering
One of the ways you can make a big difference is by volunteering. Volunteering has loads of benefits for individuals, communities and organisations.
People who volunteer gain confidence, learn new skills and develop a real sense of belonging to their communities whilst helping to improve the quality of life for local people. Organisations benefit from the skills, enthusiasm and time of a diverse volunteer workforce.
During 2010 and 2011 there has been a programme of events on different volunteering themes co-ordinated by us, Voluntary Action Leeds and lots of other public, private and voluntary sector partners.
