Energy saving advice
Everyone uses energy in their home but this energy is often wasted.

Energy efficiency is about using energy in your home in a way to make sure you are warm and comfortable; but not wasting this valuable resource and, at the same time, your money.

  • Average householder wastes £300 worth of energy per year.
  • Average energy bill is £1,000 per year
  • Average CO2 emission is 6-7 tonnes from Leeds houses per year.
  • 30% of households in Leeds find it difficult to heat their homes.

We wants to improve energy efficiency in Leeds homes; but there is a lot that residents can do to help themselves.   

Our 'Fuelsavers’ team provides free and impartial energy efficiency advice to anyone living in Leeds. You can contact the team on 0113 395 7159 during office hours.  An answerphone service operates outside these times.

Fuelsavers offer:

  • Home energy checks to help you identify improvements that can be made to heating, domestic hot water systems, controls and insulation in your home.
  • Energy grant advice
  • Heating and insulation up-grade to those with a medical need
  • Renewables advice and grant gatewaying
  • Advice surgeries on a drop-in and appointment basis
  • Talks and training to groups

Leeds City Council’s Fuelsaver’s Team have been awarded the Ashden Award for Sustainable Energy for their outstanding sustained commitment to energy efficiency which has significantly reduced fuel poverty and cut carbon emissions in Leeds.  Click on the Ashden Award link to see the film.
