The conservation area appraisal and management plan helps people understand why the heritage within the area is so important.
The information in this plan considers:
- why Kirkgate has a special character and appearance that merits it designation as a conservation area;
- provides summaries of the special interest and issues within the area- including origins and historical developments;
- provides a character analysis based on space, buildings, streetscape and public realm, and describes in features of the character areas( Kirkgate Markets, Corn Exchange, etc,);
- details opportunities to further enhance and manage this enhancement;
- specifies sources for more information on policy and strategy, local organisations involved in heritage, conservation areas concluding with a list of listed buildings with the Kirkgate Conservation Area.
The plan will assist in working with partnership with other organisations in looking after the heritage of Leeds.
The Kirkgate Conservation Area Appraisal and Management Plan is located on the right hand side.
