EASEL's Housing Strategy aims to create affordable, attractive and high quality mixed tenure housing, increasing housing choice for current and new residents to achieve a diverse and sustainable housing market.
Leeds City Council will work with developers on new housing opportunities to create more desirable places to to live and work, thus raising and meeting local aspirations for living in good quality homes in safe and tolerant neighbourhoods.
Leeds City Council is already working with Bellway Homes to deliver new housing on two sites in the EASEL area. These Phase 1 developments have started in Seacroft and Gipton with further phases to be delivered by a Joint Venture Company set up with Bellway Homes in February 2009.
The Gipton Homebuy Scheme at Amberton Park, set up by Gladedale Homes, has provided 92 properties, 25% of which have been sold to East North East Homes tenants through an equity loan scheme.
Schemes are being developed to channel Regional Housing Board and Homes and Communities Agency Funding into terraced houses in Harehills and Cross Green.
Leeds City Council has now been successful in securing £7 million Homes and Communities Agency funding for a range of developments to improve choice of tenure across the EASEL area.
The council has bought 20 homes on Bellways current sites in Seacroft and Gipton - showing commitment to maintaining the building programme and local employment including support for the two apprentices Bellway employ.
Contracts have been completed and exchanged on the first five properties, which will be for rent and managed by East North East Homes Leeds. We await news of the first handover.
