Neighbourhoods in the EASEL area have significantly high levels of unemployment. Easel's employment strategy sets out to raise residents' aspirations and skills; to improve work and training opportunities locally; and to engage more effectively with employers.
The strategy prioritises projects aimed at your people, especially those not in employment, education or training; at adults, especially those affected by long term disability or illness; and at families where there may be complex and generational barriers to employment.
Key projects include:
- Linking EASEL residents to job opportunities in the Aire Valley and Leeds City centre.
- Supporting businesses with workforce planning
- Developing skills in the construction industry linked to housing development in the area.
- Provide access to jobshop facilities across the area including Gipton Access Point
Gipton Access Point provides a friendly locally based information and guidance for job seekers - a similar centre is being planning for Seacroft
Leeds City Council's Sharing the Success Programme is encouraging enterprise; Shine's catalyst centre is successfully working with and growing businesses in Harehills and the Rise Construction Skills centre in Seacroft also provides drop-in support for small businesses.
Rise shares its space with a construction skills training centre, attracting young people with work based placements potentially on the doorstep.
