Overview of a Picture of Leeds

The storyboards which go to making up A Picture of Leeds explain how a service, or a group of partners, has tackled a particular challenge. The storyboards are grouped around the strategic priorities from the corporate plan 2005 - 2008. They reflect some of our main achievements against these priorities in the past two years creating a picture of improvement in Leeds.

Our context
The pages in this section will give you a brief overview of the different contexts which affect how we and our partners work.

Modernising our council
We are implementing these priorities via a programme of work called ‘Changing Leeds – modernising our council.’ You can view our progress so far by looking at the storyboards in this section.

All neighbourhoods are safe, clean, green and well maintained
The council and its partners have worked together to tackle different types of crime. They also work together to improve the local environment and our strategy on climate change.

All communities are thriving and harmonious places where people are happy to live
We aim to recognise the many different areas of Leeds and make sure that all neighbourhoods are places where people want to live rather than have to live. Although we still have many challenges ahead you can the progress we are making, with our partners. Amongst other achievements we have reconfigured temporary accommodation services to better meet customer needs and how perceptions of community cohesion are improving.

Our children and young people are happy, healthy, safe, successful and free from the effects of poverty
Children Leeds is the formal strategic partnership involving the council, primary care trust, teaching hospitals, the police, youth services, education and voluntary and community sector. The storyboards in this section explain some of our progress to date on issues such as improving health and wellbeing through our healthy schools standards, raising educational attainment, and helping children stay safe.

At each stage of their lives people are able to live healthy, fulfilling lives
The storyboards in this section include the reconfiguration of our social care services so that they can be accessed more fairly, how we are working to better understand the needs of future generations of older people and how we are working to reduce fuel poverty.

Leeds is a highly competitive, international city
Our key achievements with our partners include creating a destination marketing agency for the city, providing leadership on the city region agenda, and working to present a more coherent cultural offer for Leeds. We have also made progress in areas of transport infrastructure to secure the future prosperity of the city as a whole and open up key regeneration areas, such as the Aire Valley.

If you want more detail about any of these topics, there are full contact details at the end of each storyboard.
