Leeds City Council has developed a new single Equality and Diversity Scheme for 2008 – 2011, which covers all our legal duties. The Scheme includes our Disability, Race and Gender Equality Schemes.
The new single Scheme outlines how we will promote equality and diversity in everything we do, from recruiting and employing staff to delivering our services. It also includes the actions we plan to take over the next 3 years to improve equality and diversity, meet our legal responsibilities and monitor progress against our Scheme.
Priorities and actions in the Scheme have been divided into five themed areas, as follows:
- employment, learning and development
- safer communities
- service delivery
- stronger communities
- promotion of equality and diversity
These support The Leeds Strategic Plan 2008 – 2011 and the The Leeds Business Plan 2008 – 2011.
Information about the review of our Equality and Diversity Strategy 2006 – 2008 is available in the ‘Equality and Diversity Strategy Review: Analysis of Outcomes and Involvement’ report.
An overview of our performance for 2007 – 2008 can be found in the Equality and Diversity Annual Report.
Printed copies of our new Equality and Diversity Scheme 2008 - 2011 and Annual Report 2007 – 2008 are available upon request by contacting the Equality team.
