Terrorist attack alert

A terrorist attack could be anywhere using a variety of means. Terrorist strategy is to create fear of an attack, while in reality attacks are rare, but well-reported in the media.

Leeds City Council will provide support to the emergency services and the health services in dealing with the effects of a terrorist attack / incident. This may include assisting with: evacuation, temporary accommodation, mass immunisation and decontamination. It will also lead in the recovery process and restoration to normality.

Information on the evacuation process of Leeds City Centre can be found on the ‘City Centre Evacuation’ Related Page.

Current police advice is to carry on with business as usual, but as always to be vigilant for anything suspicious. If you have any information, please contact the confidential Anti-Terrorist Hotline on 0800 789321.

Since 11th September 2001 significant work has been carried out in preparing for this eventuality both nationally and locally. Recent terrorist activity has highlighted the need to be prepared for types of emergencies that result from terrorists using, or threatening to use, chemical, biological or radiological weapons.
