Further extension of Bluetongue Protection Zone to allow vaccination
Defra have announced that the Bluetongue Protection Zone will be extended to cover the counties of Northumberland and Cumbria. This follows a completion of DEFRA's vaccination programme and this will mean that all of England is in the protection zone.
Protection Zone restrictions will apply to those keepers coming into the extended zone. Animals can only be moved out of the Protection Zone if they are vaccinated, naturally immune or moving for slaughter, subject to meeting certain conditions.
Revised licences - Movement of animals out of a Bluetongue Protection Zone or Bluetongue Surveillance Zone - are also now on the Defra website.
Further Bluetongue information, including a map of the bluetongue surveillance zone and protection zone, is available on the Defra website
The declaration has been made on behalf of the Secretary of State and comes into force on the 1st September 2008 at 00.01 and at that time will replace the declaration made on 11th August 2008.
