The Leeds Initiative is the city’s local strategic partnership. Founded in 1990, we bring together the public, private, community, voluntary and faith sectors to work together to achieve success, encourage improvement, and tackle and overcome problems for the benefit for all citizens now and in the future. In 2004 we published the Vision for Leeds 2004 to 2020, a long-term plan for the ongoing economic, cultural and environmental development of the city. This plan is being developed and put into practice by a number of partnership groups working as part of the Leeds Initiative.
There are nine strategy and development groups, and a number of partnership groups, that form part of the Local Strategic Partnership, and are working to deliver the Vision for Leeds 2004 to 2020. The strategy and development groups are:
- Safer Leeds Partnership;
- Healthy Leeds Partnership;
- Leeds Cultural Partnership;
- Climate Change Partnership;
- Neighbourhood Policy Group;
- Leeds Integrated Transport Pratnership;
- Harmonious Leeds Partnership;
- Skills and Economy Partnership; and
- Children Leeds Partnership
The work of the strategy and development groups and the partnership groups is overseen by the Leeds Initiative Executive, the Narrowing the Gap Board and the Going up a League Board, who are responsible for providing strategic leadership for their relevant agendas. The Leeds Initiative Assembly provides an opportunity to join up the whole vision agenda and involve stakeholders.
As the Local Strategic Partnership, our main tasks are to:
- prepare, put into practice, monitor and review a community strategy (the Vision for Leeds);
- bring together local plans, partnerships and initiatives to allow effective joint working to meet local needs;
- work with partners to develop the local area agreement as part of the Leeds Startegic Plan.
