Education Leeds is holding public meetings this week part of a public consultation on proposals for structural reorganisation at two of Leeds’ most challenged schools.
The proposals are to
- Close City of Leeds High School from 2011
- Close Primrose High School and replace it with an academy sponsored by the Co-operative Group from 2011.
Both are included in the government’s National Challenge programme and changes are needed to make sure the 30 per cent GCSE target for 2011 is reached or maintained. City of Leeds and Primrose High School both face major challenges to improve teaching, attendance and behaviour standards and require urgent changes to meet the target.
Education Leeds is holding a public meeting at each school:
City of Leeds
Wednesday 10 February, 7pm
City of Leeds High School, Bedford Field, Woodhouse Cliff, Leeds, LS6 2LG
Primrose High School
Thursday 11 February, 7pm
Primrose High School, Stoney Rock Lane, Leeds, LS9 7HD
Please note that the proposals are separate and the meetings will only discuss the proposal affecting the host school.
Education Leeds is also consulting over a third proposal in response to the National Challenge, to close Parklands Girls High School and replace it with a co-educational (girls and boys), academy sponsored by the EACT, from 2011.
Parklands Girls’ High School’s GCSE results have already exceeded the national target this year but a declining roll and difficult financial situation present a challenge for continuing improvement beyond 2011. Education Leeds is also holding a meeting to discuss this proposal
Parklands Girls High School
Tuesday 23 February, 7pm
Parklands Girls High School, South Parkway, Seacroft, Leeds, LS14 6TY
We are holding a separate consultation over a proposal to stop providing girls-only secondary education in Leeds.
The consultations began on Thursday 7 January and run until Friday 5 March 2010. A booklet giving full details of the proposal and other consultations over education proposals are available to view in local libraries and on the Education Leeds website
