Leeds is an international city with one of the largest economies in the UK. It is the main employment centre for the region as a whole and has established itself as the financial capital of the north.
Leeds Economic Development Strategy
Published in June 2000, the Leeds Economic Development Strategy, sets out how public and private sector organisations in the city will work together to ensure continued and sustainable development. The strategy is designed to encourage the generation of wealth, investment and jobs in ways that meet the needs of all our citizens.
The 2002 Strategy Review
The 2002 Strategy Review assesses whether the analysis and assumptions informing the strategy still apply. It reviews progress in ‘developing a regional centre and cosmopolitan city’ – one of the key themes of the strategy – and provides an overview of key projects currently underway in the city.
The Agenda for Improved Economic Performance
In 2008 work started on the production of a new economic development strategy - the Agenda for Improved Economic Performance.
The Leeds Economy and Skills Partnership - a Leeds Initiative group - is leading on the work. This is expected to be concluded in Spring 2009.
