Leeds Library and Information Service’s Annual Library Plan summarises key plans for the future of the service. It has been created from discussions with staff, the public and stakeholders. More details on specific policies are available on the council website and from individual libraries.

Within the city the library service has never been more vital in supporting regeneration, lifelong learning and better quality of life of individuals and communities. Libraries are the heart of each community and form a hub around which local activities take place.

Within the Council the service is recognised as valuable to the corporate plan in a number of ways. The Peoples Network, National Library Standards, Improving Literacy, Neighbourhood Renewal and Social Inclusion policies all underline the value of a thriving library service.

The staff have successfully managed the necessary change and yet recognise there is much still to do. Leeds City Council supports this and endorses this library plan as key to that process. We feel it is a challenging yet deliverable plan which will offer an exciting new future for Leeds Library and Information Service and the people of Leeds.
