Safer cycling courses.
Safer cycling courses are aimed at primary school pupils in years five and six.
Year five training is a half-day course set in the playground whilst year six training is a one day course with 75% being conducted on the roads. Both courses involve health and safety issues, bike checks and a playground based riding skills assessment.
On road training includes hazard awareness, road positioning, left and right turns to and from minor and major junctions and concludes with a group ride.
Everyone who takes part in the course is given a written assessment report of their riding skills and suitability to ride on the roads with or without supervision. The report will also identify any further training needs.
