Yellow woods challenge

The yellow woods challenge is an environmental competition for primary schools run by Yellow Pages, working in partnership with the Woodland Trust and Leeds City Council. 

46 Primary schools in Leeds took part in the Yellow Woods Challenge 2008 and helped to recycle a grand total of 5461 old directories.  The directories collected will be recycled into paper.

The top six schools in the challenge were:

1st Prize: Gold Oak Prize: £300 for collecting the most Yellow Pages per pupil, Seeds to Trees pack and a Gold Oak Certificate.

Rothwell Primary School

842 copies, 3.76 yellow pages directories per pupil.

2nd Prize: Silver Birch Prize: £200 first runner up collecting the most Yellow Pages per pupil, Seeds to Trees pack and a Silver Birch Certificate.

Thorner C of E Primary

352 copies, 2.65 yellow pages directories per pupil.

3rd Prize: Bronze Beech Prize: £100 second runner up collecting the most Yellow Pages per pupil, Seeds to Trees pack and a Bronze Beech Certificate.

Rawdon Littlemoor Primary School

560 copies, 1.82 yellow pages directories per pupil.

4th Prize: ‘Highly commended’ certificate and a Seeds to Trees pack.

Gildersome Primary School

226 copies, 1.10 yellow pages directories per pupil.

5th Prize: ‘Commended’ Certificate and a Seed to Trees pack.

Christ the King Catholic Primary

210 copies, 0.97 yellow pages directories per pupil.

6th Prize: ‘Commended’ Certificate and a Seeds to Tree pack.

Fountain Primary School

302 copies, 0.80 yellow pages directories per pupil.

Bonus Award of £100 –  for the most directories in total collected went to Rothwell Primary School
