  • Do you know someone who works tirelessly to improve their local surroundings?
  • Do you want the chance to come to a glittering award ceremony and win great prizes?

You need to enter the Community and City Pride awards!

Now in its fifth year, this scheme is building on the successes of previous years, where over 20,000 people across 120 entries have shown the amazing things that the residents of Leeds do to improve the environment where they live, work, study or socialise.

Projects could be run by

  1. local charities
  2. community groups
  3. individuals
  4. schools
  5. students
  6. businesses working with the community

and could be

  1. clean ups
  2. recycling schemes
  3. reuse or waste minimisation projects
  4. community garden creation
  5. any other small scale environmental project. 

This year we have new categories that reflect the previous entries, and the details of these can be downloaded from the link on the right.  In due course you will be able to download the information booklet and submission forms. 

This year’s categories are:

  1. Reduce and Reuse Project of the Year
  2. Recycling Project of the Year
  3. Small Area Improvement Project of the Year
  4. Larger Area Improvement Project of the Year
  5. Green Space Creation Project of the Year
  6. Business and Community Partnership Project of the Year
  7. Engaging Under 11s Project of the Year
  8. Engaging Under 18s Project of the Year
  9. Under 18s Individual Contribution of the Year
  10. Over 18s Individual Contribution of the Year

Closing date for all competition submissions is the end of October 2008, and please take lots of pictures of your work.  You can include any work done since November 2007, and can send in forms from now until the end of October.

We can help you with your scheme, with ideas, by lending you equipment or with help in getting touch with other people in your area who may want to join in.  Our sponsors Biffa will provide some free skips, or if you are limited in space, you can get a Hippobag, delivered and collected for free, subject to availability.  Contact us for a Biffa skip at the details on the right and Hippowaste directly for their services at the details on their flyer.  You do not need to enter the competition to borrow equipment from us.
