To improve access and to increase use of libraries by people whose first language is not English, Leeds Library and Information Service is providing a range of services and material through the Accesspoint Project. The new facilities include:

  • Library membership forms in the community languages (see links on this page), Worksheets on how to use computers, access the internet, send and receive email, and word process in the languages listed down the side of this page. Library information signs in the community language
  • Multilingual software packages for word processing in a 100 languages
  • Books and newspapers available in a variety of community languages
  • Asian music CDs available at some libraries
  • Enquiry support available at Headingley and Compton Road libraries in Punjabi, Hindi and Urdu.

Accesspoint is a project to provide everyone in the community with free access to the internet and use of the latest computer facilities. Packed with the latest technology, including networked PCs and high-tech furniture and seating, it’s a modern purpose built area that provides

  • FREE access to computers and the internet
  • surf the web or use e-mail to keep in touch with your friends
  • training courses and self-help worksheets to help you to learn more about using computers and improve your skills at your own pace
  • a comfortable and fun meeting place where you can get involved in local projects and give your community a voice on the internet
  • a direct connection to the Leeds Learning Network
  • the opportunity to improve your career prospects and connect to learning information
