Supporting adults away from home

Day services
There are day centres across the city for a wide range of people. The centres provide a place to meet others, activities, a mid-day meal, refreshments, and at some, assistance with personal care.

There are specialist day centres for older people, people with learning disabilities, people with dementia, people with mental health problems, people with physical disabilities and people from ethnic minority communities. There is a small daily charge that includes the midday meal. Read more about paying for day services.

Respite care
We also provide respite care to support carers who help look after a relative or friend at home. If a carer is at risk because of stress or health problems for example, we can provide day services for the person they look after.

Residential care
There are residential homes available for older people, people with physical disabilities and people with learning disabilities. They are for people who are unable to live independently and safely in their own homes, even with all available support. Read more about residential care.

Lunch clubs, volunteering and other social activities
There are lunch clubs running in many parts of Leeds and as well as offering a midday meal there is an opportunity to take part in social activities and make new friends. There’s also a range of other activities available, run by the council or other organisations. Read more about leisure and social activities.

Blue parking badges
Blind, or disabled people with severe walking difficulties may qualify for a parking 'badge' or disc. They allow badge holders to park closer to their destination. Read more about the Blue Badge scheme.
