Peace initiatives

UN decade for peace

Peacelink is a group of Leeds organisations, including an elective representative of Leeds City Council as the chair, who work together on peace initiatives.

Every year events take place in Leeds, including the Olof Palme Memorial Peace Lecture and United Nations World Peace day. We also support events coordinated internationally, such as the Mayors for Peace Hiroshima Nagasaki memorial service.

Leeds City Council also welcome and try to support events run by Peacelink partners including Together for Peace, Concord, CND, the Peace Museum (Bradford) and Leeds Metropolitan University who we work closely with.

Every year projects are commissioned and delivered. In 2009 Leeds launched the ‘Peacetrail’, an educational and recreational resource for children and adults. This is a walking tour around Leeds city centre, telling a range of fascinating stories of peace and peace-making – each connected with people, groups and places in the city, past and present.

If you would like to find out more about the peace projects the council is involved in or have ideas for projects, please contact us using the contact details in the top right hand side of this page.
