Beeston Hill and West Hunslet Regeneration

Beeston Hill and West Hunslet regeneration plan

We have been working closely with local people in Beeston Hill and Holbeck to produce a series of regeneration plans to guide change and development in the area over the next 10-20 years. There will be three plans and all will be prepared with the help of local people:

  • Holbeck (consultation complete, plan being revised)
  • Beeston Hill and West Hunslet (consultation underway)
  • Parkside (preliminary work undertaken)

A key aspect of the regeneration of the area is to strengthen the image and pride that people have in their area. Key to this is genuine community engagement, the creation of ‘a sense of place’ and by making sure that decisions on the area’s future are transparent and sustainable.

Aims of the regeneration plans

  • to continue the process of consultation with the local community
  • implement the principles and the findings of the consultation on the Beeston Hill and Holbeck Land Use Framework
  • ensure the sustainable regeneration of Beeston Hill and West Hunslet
  • ensure that all stakeholders influence and have ownership of the Regeneration Plan
  • engage with residents on proposals for housing improvements
  • identify new retail, residential, greenspace and community opportunities
  • identify new and improved greenspace and recreational facilities
  • identify ways to Improve walking and cycling to the city centre and within the wider Beeston Hill and Holbeck areas
  • capitalize on the proximity of Leeds city centre, the John Charles Stadium, the South Leeds High School and Middleton Park
  • provide guidance on design and sustainability, tailor made to the needs of West Hunslet and Beeston Hill
