Family Placement (children) is a service offered by Leeds Social Services for children with physical disability, severe learning disability or  sensory impairment.

We have a number of carers who will either sit (Sitting and Homebased) for a child in your home or your child can stay in the carers home (Short Breaks).

You must also be a Leeds Council Tax payer.

What is a Short Break?

After an initial introductions your child will go to stay with our carer in their home. This can be from a few hours to a week. The basis allocation is 36 days a year though this can be increased if you have extra needs.

To receive this service an assessment is undertaken, usually by a social worker.

What is Sitting and Homebased?

Following introductions, one of our carers will come to stay in your home to sit for your child. The basic allocation is 8 hours per month If your child has greater needs this can be increased but you will need an assessment. Some of our carers are also able to stop overnight.

How does it work?

For Short Breaks a social worker will introduce you to the carer and help to organise the placement. Once everyone is happy you and the carer can arrange convenient dates and your child can stay overnight.

This is similar for Sitting and Homebased care where you can arrange dates directly with your sitter or carer.

There is no charge for children's services.

All our Short Breaks foster carers have experience in looking after children with disabilities and will have been approved as foster carers. Sitters are approved by the scheme manager.

If you are interested in the scheme, please contact the Social Services Call Centre on 0113 222 4403 for Short Breaks or Homebased care. If you are interested in Sitting please ring Chris Myers or Melody Brewer on (0113) 247 8589.
