There are a number of day schemes and clubs for children with special needs, which give them a chance to not only have fun, but interact with other children and learn, plus a break for the carer and parent. The Early Years Service council service supports and develops activities for the care of children under eight years old across Leeds, tel 0113 247 4050.

The Weekenders Club play activities for disabled children and children with complex care needs between the ages of 2-19 years with a nurse to help, tel 0113 216 5133.

Phab offer activities and holidays to young people with and without disabilities which members can share and enjoy together, tel 01937 573 722, Prince Phillip Centre, Scott Hall Road, LS7 2HJ.

Leeds Deaf Youth Club have two groups; junior (5-11 years old) learning and educating through play and senior (11-18 years old) focuses more on educating through issue-based group work, discussions and debates, with a residential holiday every year. Leeds Deaf Play scheme summer play scheme for ages 5 to 15 that is carefully designed to give many exciting experiences as possible while learning and playing. Tel 0113 243 8328, Centenary House, North Street, LS2 8JS.

People in Action run social, educational and leisure groups for people with learning difficulties and disabilities. Tel 0113 247 0411. These include the following.

  • Let's Join In Awtar Sagoo, puts on educational, social and leisure activities during the school holidays for 14 to 25 year olds who need one to one support and have high support needs.
  • Gateway Clubs 11 clubs located citywide offer social and leisure activities mainly in the evenings.
  • Families In Action project works with parents with learning difficulties and disabilities, offering advice and support in dealing with housing, money matters, friendship, parenting, leisure activities and many other issues.

Integrated play facilities in Leeds parks
Golden Acre Park has motorised scooters for rental so that carers could use these parks with the person they care for. To book call 0113 261 3064, please give at least 24 hour notice.

Horsforth has a specially designed outdoor integrated play facility allowing disabled and able bodied children under the age of eight to play together.
