Pests can be a problem all year round. There are some pests which are a problem at certain times of the year for a short amount of time. Download the seasonal pest control calendar on this page for more information.
We offer a pest control service for
Spring
In spring bees and wasps will become active again. Some of the first to appear are solitary bees which we are committed to safeguarding and protecting. They are hugely beneficial to the environment and worryingly their numbers are in decline. For this reason we will only treat where there is a significant risk to human health and as a last resort.
People are not often able to tell the difference between wasps and bees which can lead to undue stress and worry. This bulletin will help provide you with the information necessary to help identify the type of insect and what action if any, should be taken.
Honey bees
Honey bees are beneficial to the environment and we are committed to saving swarms and re-homing them in safe locations. Please contact us if you are affected by a swarm as we can arrange for a bee keeper to collect it or provide advice and treatment.

We also provide a commercial service. Please refer to our commercial information to see the range of services we can provide from one off treatments to pest management contracts.
A free identification service is also available if you are unsure as to what pest species might be causing a problem.
For further guidance on any pest species we have a range of leaflets to give further guidance and advice on how to both prevent and treat an infestation.
Black ants
Black ants (garden ants) swarm annually and this usually starts in July and peaks in August. They swarm to start new ant colonies when the existing colony has reached a certain size.
Swarming could be quite alarming to see, however, the ants are just focused on flying away. They will not sting and should not cause any real problem to residents.
The large winged 'queens' and smaller males emerge en masse from the ground and attempt to climb to high point before taking off. Many get predated by birds and other wildlife during this time.
Swarming usually only occurs once at each location but can occur more. It can start quickly during warm or humid weather and may last all day, but rarely beyond that.
If swarming occurs indoors they are best treated with a conventional aerosol insect spray (follow instructions for use) which will have the desired quick knock down effect.
Swarming is a natural annual occurrence which cannot be predicted and which anyone can do little about when it actually happens. It is best to let it runs its course and it will be over as quickly as it started.
We do not recommend trying to treat the general environment (outdoors) with insecticides.
